NEW MANCHESTER LANDMARK INSPIRED BY BRICK CHIMNEYS

2018-09-26

The design by Glenn Howells Architects for a slim, 55-story tower in the city center of Manchester, U.K., pays homage to the red brick chimneys that once dotted the city's skyline, The Architects' Journal reports. At 165 m tall and 15 m wide, the Hulme Street skyscraper will be the slenderest in Manchester, according to Glenn Howells. It is being developed by Student Castle to house 850 studio apartments for students, communal facilities and 750 m2 of coworking space. A team that includes managing consultant Deloitte and project manager AECOM is working with the city council and Historic England. Completion is anticipated in 2022.
