2018-10-12

A man using a wheelchair died as the result of falling down an escalator at Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Columbia Heights station in Washington, D.C., on October 10, The Washington Post reports. Security footage shows the man waited approximately 10-15 s. for an elevator, then opted to take an “up” escalator instead. He and his wheelchair tumbled down the stairs when he had almost reached the top. He was hospitalized and later died from his injuries. WMATA says the elevator was operating properly at the time.
