The top steps of an escalator “shredded” during the morning rush hour of February 25 in Midtown Manhattan, New York, the New York Post reported. A Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) employee said the combplate caught the steps on an upward escalator of the 5th Avenue/53rd Street subway station. The authority sent personnel to the scene to fix the escalator and direct customer traffic. It is investigating the incident and inspecting all 231 of its escalators.
